Code Factory, the world leader in mobile access solutions for the visually impaired, announced today that a public beta of Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphone has been released and is available for download. Version 2.0 of this speech and magnification application for the Windows Mobile Standard operating system boasts unparalleled flexibility in the way it is licensed, greater responsiveness on more phones than ever before, and over 50 new features and enhancements. The new Mobile Speak Smartphone sets a new standard of innovative, yet intuitive, access to mobile devices. “We at Code Factory have prided ourselves on two traits above all others,” says Roselle Ambubuyog, the company’s Product Manager for Windows Mobile Solutions. “First, we constantly innovate in whatever we do. Secondly, and more importantly, we are rapidly responsive to our customers. This version of Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones puts into practice both of these values. Many of our new features, such as user-centred licensing, the integration of a quick and easy feedback mechanism, and the Braille input panel have never before been available on any smartphone. Again, most of our new features, such as our support for the Phat Notes application, the ability to move licenses from device to device, and the ability to read Bookshare and other BRF files through speech, are direct responses to customer requests.” Code Factory is committed to incorporating customer feedback and is, therefore, offering this public beta free of charge to both existing customers and those considering a smartphone and using a trial of the product. Below are just some of the many exciting features of Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones v2.0. Visit http://www.codefactory.es/mobile_speak_smartphone/mss_whats_new.htm to read a full list of the new features and enhancements in the new version.
- User-Centered Licensing: As previously announced, Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones v2.0 supports User-Centred Licensing. This new licensing system allows free and unlimited transfer of licenses between devices, activation of devices anytime and anywhere using an internet connection or SMS, use of a backup phone, and much more. For more information about user-centred licensing, visit http://www.codefactory.es/UCL.
- Support for the most recently released phones: Mobile Speak Smartphone has increased its already unrivaled number of supported phones by officially supporting the Motorola Q9M and Q9h, the HP Ipaq voice messenger series, and the HTC s630/Cavalier, thus allowing visually impaired users to use the best and most powerful mobile technology available today.
- Greater stability, responsiveness, and battery life: Due to memory and processor optimizations never before seen on the Windows Mobile Platform, Mobile Speak Smartphone has cut its memory usage in half and vastly improved its already extraordinary responsiveness on all supported phones. Users will also find that battery life on devices running version 2.0 has increased substantially.
- Bookshare.org Unpack and BRF support: Users can now unpack and read BRF files from Bookshare.org (www.bookshare.org) on their Windows Mobile smartphones regardless of whether they have a Braille display, and without having to install any unpack utility or BRF converter. BRF files may be read through speech, Braille, or both, and those BRF files offered by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (www.loc.gov/nls) in the United States, as well as those offered by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (www.cnib.ca) in Canada, are supported.
- Command layouts making more screen reader functions readily available: The Mobile Speak Smartphone command structure now consists of different layouts that group related functions. Commands are no longer limited by the number of available keys on a smartphone, and new commands can now easily be assigned using the same key combinations which perform different functions in each layout.
- Support for PhatNotes note-taking application: Smartphones are often the perfect devices for taking notes, and PhatNotes makes note taking and synchronization quick and easy. A full description of the program and its many features can be found at http://www.phatware.com/phatnotes/index.html.
- Integration of Mobile Magnifier for Windows Mobile Smartphones: Version 2.0 of Mobile Speak for Windows Mobile Smartphones now comes with the first and only screen magnification application for Windows Mobile Standard. Licensed separately, Mobile Magnifier Smartphone can be used as a standalone product or as a plug-in to Mobile Speak Smartphone.
